It was crazy. Exhausting. But we made it.
Our "stuff" traveled over 2000 miles in a trailer pulled by Uncle Herm's truck.
Our van was filled to the brim and driven for over 3 days by Deb (a.k.a Mom/Didi).
The four of us woke up at 3:00 a.m. to board a plane for a short 3 hour flight. And that, my friends, was enough. We spent nearly two days recuperating at Aunt Gloria and Uncle Byron's home before having to unload, unpack and make a bare apartment into a home.
With both grandmas before leaving Portland
Zoë was welcomed to Texas with a new gown for dress-up
Lucky girl!
Isaiah is fitting right in ;)
Let the unpacking begin!
We have now been in our apartment for just over two weeks. Zac started classes right away and dove headlong into his studies. We see him every once in a while when he resurfaces to be fed. :) We were warmly welcomed by our Texas family and our kiddos have been loved on by Great Aunts and Uncles and cousins.

Isaiah is 4 months old!
He is huge (still pretty skinny, but t-a-l-l). And he discovered his thumb, which is adorable and has slightly helped him sleep longer. Unfortunately, he is also still working on those pesky teeth AND caught a cold from big sister Zoë (who also decided to share it with mommy). We had one solid 8 hour night in the last two weeks among many every-2-to-4-hour nights and I'm hanging onto the promise of more 8's to come! (Please come soon!)
Lovin' that thumb!
Isaiah loves the step-'n-play piano that he inherited from his sister, and it is great that we have a kitchen big enough for it to fit in while I'm working on meal preparation. He had his first roll over from tummy to back, and then mastered the back to tummy roll. :)
First time in the pool - he was ecstatic!
This look is just like his daddy's :)

Zoë is loving the novelty of unpacking and rediscovering all her treasures that had slowly disappeared into boxes over the past few months. She is also the proud owner of a bunk bed! Of course, some day she will have to share, but for now she enjoys climbing up to the top for "quiet time" and having plenty of leg room at night.
Zoë has enjoyed discovering all the new things around our new home. We have designated play areas inside our building and the building next to us with fun toys, books, dress-up clothes etc. just for kids her age, and a little playground outside the second building. Pushing our cart to the laundry room is one of her favorite activities and she enjoys running to the front of the building to open the door for daddy (she can see him walking out her window).
A new favorite pastime.
We may have a future drummer on our hands.
We've had some fun adventures to the zoo, the playground, and swimming with cousins. Zoë also got to attend "Meet the Teacher" day this past week and will start 3's Day School on Monday, September 8th! She is very excited!

Beating the heat with an early morning park adventure
I have been preparing myself for this Phd season knowing it would be difficult for all of us, but I was surprised with how hard it hit so quickly. I'm thankful for the relatives we have in the area that made the transition so much better than it could have been, but within the first week it became clear that this will not be easy. We are both faced with long days and long nights in our own ways, Zac with books and I with kids, and are both lonely in our own ways.
During the chaos of the day, I am being reminded of my utter dependence on God and my desperate need for the presence of Jesus through the Spirit to hold me, sustain me, empower me, encourage me and guide me. In those quiet moments at night when the kids are asleep and Zac is gone, I am being reminded that I am never alone and I do not walk this journey on my own. My Companion is the root of all peace. Though there are many rough moments in the day, my children are a delight to me and I am enjoying this opportunity to be home with them and watch them grow up together.
Sibling love
Nothing better than the laughter of children. :)
This month was a big month full of big transitions, new beginnings, a certain young lady's 29th birthday, and a little cutie hitting the four month mark.
Stay tuned for a post coming very soon about Zoë's first day/week of preschool, and next month you will get to hear about life from the viewpoint of the PhD pursuant himself. :)
(Thanks to Didi for capturing several of these pictures. ;)
